Well, after 18 yrs enjoying raising and breeding cocker spaniels. Learning with each year and finally having a better understanding of how to keep them healthy, I will be winding down to where I will eventually have no more once my oldsters are gone.
My heart is so sad at this I can't tell you but, it has gotten to be so expensive, especially when you do it responsibly but with the designer dog market, the pet cocker price drop market. I cannot charge enough for my puppies to keep up with the debt that they produce. I refuse to mass produce puppies to make sure they sell but to whom are they being sold to? Those who wouldn't pay a little more for all the health benefits or breeder guarantees? If they wouldn't be willing to do that, then why would they be willing to go the extra mile to take better care of them than the average pet owner? Then what happens? The dog ends up with a personality crisis because of poor training, health problems that they aren't willing to deal with because of poor nutrition, poor mainainance or just a lack of funds to do it so they either end up back here or in some shelter. No! I can't afford to treat sick dogs but I will and I do. You know that I will because they left me with a promise that I would always love them and put their welfare first for life. It is another matter due to death or the health condition of someone who bought one of my puppies but can no longer care for them. So, I will have some adults that I would love to place in GOOD homes that will continue to care for them in the manner that I had. This year I will be looking for a home for Phoebe, Halo's On The Bright Side. I am not looking for an elderly couple or person because she tends to get under your feet. She is more cat than dog LOL. Salina, Ch.I-Ken-El's Total Edition will be very ideal for older couple or adult as she is very quiet and does not like quick movement or a lot of noise. I will be looking to place her after the first of the year.
